Well, denim never goes out of fashion but come summer and wearing your faithful pants won't be so comfy. And besides, you might have some old pair of jeans just sitting in your closet. So why not transform them into something sexy and sassy? Agree? :)

I'll show how I made my own distressed shorts.
First, you might want to check your closet for pants (or ask your friends if they have) that you are not wearing anymore. In my case though, I bought an old pair of bermuda-like denim shorts in a thrift shop for only Php 25.00 ($ 0.55). Remember that the material should not be stretchy so that your shorts will "fray" better.
For pants, cut first up to knee high so that it is easier to work with. Then, using a marking pencil or a normal pencil, mark where you want to cut your shorts or what shape you want. I advice that you wear them as you mark, so you could easily visualize how "short" your shorts will be. With the help of a tape measure, I marked the outer side of the shorts a good 5 inches from the hem.
Then, on the same side, I marked another 6 inches from the hem. This is because I want the front side to be shorter.

Then, I marked the inner side of the shorts with 3 inches from the hem.
Connect both the 5" and 6" mark of the outer side to the 3" mark of the inner side of the shorts and...
...you will have something like this.
Cut both sides of the shorts using the 3" to 5" line. Then, cut the front side only using the 3" to 6" line and...
...your shorts should look like this.
I noticed this part sticking out so I just folded the shorts in half and cut that part. Don't worry if your cut is not too straight because when you start fraying your shorts, this will not be noticeable.
Then from here, you can start distressing your shorts. There are no rules on how to distress them,
you can be as creative as you want *wink*. For my shorts, I just cut 4 lines on the back pocket.

When you launder your shorts, it will actually fray on its own but if you are not happy with it,
you can use tweezers to pull the threads. Remember though that they will fray better over time :)
